A reawakened hotel

Holland Harvey Architects chose Clippings as their procurement partner for the entire furniture and lighting package for their flagship hotel Queen's Gardens – an immense redevelopment project.

Natural wood finishes characterise the lobby area, which includes the Rén Lounge Chairs from Stellar Works and the Wishbone CH24 Dining Chairs from Carl Hansen & Son (all sourced via Clippings). They're combined with the Connect Modular Sofa from Muuto and the Tres Textures Rug from Nanimarquina

Set over six townhouses, the Grade II mid-19th century Victorian building was previously a mediocre three-star travel hotel with a ground floor basement kitchen and restaurant. With the bedrooms’ layout fixed due to structural reasons, Holland Harvey Architects got to work to open up and reconfigure the ground floor, moving the front of house offering in its entirety to the ground floor and opening up the space. Working to a very clear brief built around well-being and sustainability, they also turned the basement into a wellness area with a gym, yoga studio, salt room and sauna.

Next to the marble coffee counter stand the Visu Bar Stools by Muuto. On the other side of the aisle, the high table is surrounded by Betty TK7 Counter Stool from &Tradition.

Clippings helped bring the vision to life

'We envisioned a beautiful open space which guests would want to spend time in – a home away from home’, explains Maria Gutierrez, Senior Designer. ‘Our aim was to celebrate and enhance the existing building while putting sustainability at the core. When it came to the furniture, this meant that we worked with the Clippings team to find Scandinavian and Japanese-inspired products. Using a lot of natural materials helps a calm space and create a palette that works very effortlessly together.’

This little co-working area is furnished with the Drawn HM3 Dining Chair from &Tradition and the Tres Tres Texture Rug from Spanish rug maker Nanimarquina.

‘We also tried – again with the help of the Clippings team and their extensive product knowledge – to identify net-positive brands with sustainability at their core and find companies that were predominantly in Europe to reduce shopping costs and expenditure. We also tried to specify as much timber and natural fabrics as possible.’

The dark green colour of the Visu Bar Stools from Muuto complements the green hues of the bar counter's solid marble.
'Working with Clippings was invaluable'
Maria Gutierrez, Senior Designer, Holland Harvey Architects

'The end result is really beautiful' Maria continues. 'We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved. Working with Clippings was invaluable. The client decided not to engage an FF&E manager, not realising the extent of work required in checking every detail and every tiny decision. We knew the Clippings team from previous projects and worked so well with them. And for a project like this, having one point of contact to deal with for all your product selection and installation and delivery is such a help. The whole experience was just great and everything went smoothly.'

The desks in the bedroom are paired with the Bogart chair from Spanish manufacturer Verges.

Platform perks that save time

'The platform itself is very intuitive and easy to share with the client. It makes the products selection process really easy and much quicker for us with our client', Maria says about the Clippings platform. 'Sometimes, people can be sceptical about free services, but what separates Clippings is having dedicated managers dealing with your project from start to finish who really know the project, know the building and the specification brief. I can honestly say we would not have fulfilled the project without the help of the Clippings team.’
